CIWEM's Environmental Photographer of the Year is an
international showcase for the very best in environmental
photography and video. Honouring amateurs and professionals of all
ages, it provides an opportunity for photographers to share images
of environmental and social issues with international audiences,
and to enhance our understanding of the causes, consequences and
solutions to climate change and social inequality.
Michele Palazzi has been
named CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year
2013 for his image entitled 'Gone with the Dust
#02.'
Eleanor Bennett has been named
the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year
(under 18), with two works selected for
exhibition.
Jonathan Goldberg has been awarded
the Environmental Video of the Year
Award for 'Shaking the Tree,' which
shows how one man inspired an army of fruit harvesters in his local
community.
This year's award winners and
exhibitors were selected from over 3,000 entries that
were judged on impact, composition, originality and technical
ability.
'These photographs and
videos are some of the most powerful images anyone will ever see.
They tell a breathtaking and compelling range of stories on the
environment and on the condition in which we live. Shock and awe,
beauty and despair - it's all
there.' -CIWEM Executive Director, Nick
Reeves OBE
Following an exhibition at
Royal Geographical Society throughout April and
May, the works are currently on display at
Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre, Cumbria until 1 September
2013, before culminating at CIWEM's new headquarters, conference
and members' facility in Farringdon, London in Autumn 2013. Visit
the Exhibitions & Events
page for full details.

Since its launch in 2007, CIWEM's Environmental Photographer of
the Year Award has steadily attracted an increasing number of
photographers, of all ages and from all over the world, to submit
thousands of images each year for consideration by an esteemed
panel of selectors.
The rapid growth and success of the competition has been
astonishing. Now in its sixth year, CIWEM has engaged the services
of Parker
Harris to manage and take the competition and exhibitions to a
new level.
