CIWEM Midlands New Members' Group 2011 / 2012

The Midlands New Members' Group (NMG) runs a programme of initiatives specifically addressing the needs of early career professionals working in the water and environmental management sector.

For those keen to get involved in CIWEM yet lacking experience in the industry, the NMG is an ideal entrance point/ access route. Membership of the group and active involvement on the committee provide opportunities to build up networks, gain an insight into the industry and the operations of CIWEM. It allows individuals to build their knowledge, experience, competence and confidence in a welcoming environment. Members can learn from and support each other, whilst enjoying themselves and earning valuable CPD.

Established since 2008, we take pride in our innovative thinking and implementation of ideas. For example, our use of online tools for event bookings and gathering feedback. In the last year, we have organised many successful events including a tour of the Fradley Junction canal system, a workshop on Coastal Processes, and our ever popular pub quiz!

For 2011/12, our theme is 'Interaction'. We would like to encourage our New Members to interact with one another to enable new links and networks to be formed within the industry. We will support the initiative by introducing more social and workshop events that will enable members to interact with one another. We will also be working closely with other Institutions to bring a range of networking opportunities to our members. Above all, we intend to build on an established group that brings real benefits to its members.

We would like our members to attend meetings for the right reasons; to develop their passion for the environment. By encouraging interaction within the New Members Group, we hope to develop new ideas and inspiration that may one day become National best practice.
