Message from CIWEM Scottish Branch Chair
Welcome to the CIWEM Scottish Branch site. We are an
active committee, who operate a varied programme of evening and
daytime events on your behalf. These events are mostly
central belt based, but we do also run events in Inverness,
Aberdeen and elsewhere and hope to arrange a Study Tour to
Orkney. We try to represent both local and national views in
consultations and are always interested in your thoughts and
involvement in Scotland based debates.
In these tough economic times our role as professionals and
specialists involved in the environment is essential - the need for
a sustainable future is all the more pressing and with less funding
to deliver the necessary research and infrastructure, all the more
challenging. It is with this in mind that the Scottish Branch
Committee has developed this season's programme of events for
2011/12.
The programme is varied, interesting and hopefully inspiring
with many specialist speakers lined-up. The programme is
posted on the "Events" tab above (then "Branch Events") where you
will also find details of individual sessions.
Our partnership with WaPUG allows us to share the annual
Symposium which will be held later than previous years (April 2012)
in a bid to avoid the pre-Christmas clashes that can occur. Another
change for the symposium is the venue which will be in Glasgow for
the first time in a few years.
In addition we hope to increase the profile of the Environmental
Debate which is always a good humoured event with informative
messages. This year the subject is about whether we can meet
the challenge set for reducing our carbon emissions with eminent
speakers on both sides.
CIWEM is about the environment, but it is also about the people,
not least the professionals working in the sector, so we as a
branch seek to represent you. If you have any other queries,
thoughts, or points please feel free to drop me, or any committee
member, a line.
We look forward to meeting you through the year.
Regards,
Neil McLean, CIWEM Scottish Branch Chair
and on behalf of the Scottish Branch Committee
