Networks

Networks are extremely valuable to the Institution, as they are the technical cornerstone to CIWEM outputs such as conferences, consultation responses, policy statements and requests for advice from members and other contacts.

There are a number of benefits to network members, including relationship building within the sector, the sharing of information, involvement in valuable conferences, technical issues and policy outputs, high level networking and the satisfaction of supporting their relevant professional body.

Networks are made up of Steering Groups and a wider network of interested individuals. Steering Groups will normally meet two to three times a year, although much of the work is done outside meetings, largely by email contact. The wider network remains 'virtual' and will have the opportunity to feed into CIWEM outputs, with the Steering Group responsible for establishing an effective communication channel between the groups. Members are required to act impartially on behalf of CIWEM, and independently of employer or other interests.

Justin Taberham, Director of Policy at CIWEM, Policy Manager Alastair Chisholm,  Policy Officers Joanna Cooper and Laura Grant and Policy Administrator Rosanna Geary manage networks and support and direct their work.

CIWEM seeks experts on energy issues for new network

CIWEM is to establish a new network of experts on issues relating to energy.

The Institution is calling on its members and others who have professional experience relating to energy issues and who would be willing to feed into the Institution's technical and policy outputs, to contact Alastair Chisholm, Policy Manager at CIWEM to express their interest.

The new network will consider key issues relating to energy policy and technical challenges, from de-carbonising energy supply to maximising uptake of energy efficiency across society. CIWEM is increasingly called upon regarding its position in relation to energy issues and is keen to ensure that it has a body of expert opinion on which to call to ensure that the views put forward are balanced and representative of its membership.

The network will be overseen by Richard Cherry of Vergas Ltd, who is keen to facilitate the development of this grouping.
