Climate Change

CIWEM has a Climate Change Network with a steering group of 12 people which help to drive the work of the group and a virtual participation that includes CIWEM members and  non-members worldwide who have an interest in or are working in the area.

Role and Function

The function of the CIWEM Global Climate Change Network (CCN) is to provide expert views for the Institution and to be a sounding board for current and new initiatives. The CCN will enable CIWEM to deliver technical and policy outputs to a consistently high standard.

The network will act as a focal point, bringing together people who are working in the area or for whom climate change is a key issue. The network will include contacts from across government, consultancies, companies etc and across the globe.  It will also be important to have a 'climate change champion' within each CIWEM panel, group and branch, with the aim of pulling together expertise from these different sources.

Steering Group

The CCN will be a virtual global network, operating mainly by email, but there will be a Steering Group of a maximum of 15 people who can meet 2 - 3 times a year and help direct the work of the Group as a whole.

The group is chaired by Geoff Darch of Atkins. He is a Chartered Scientist and a leading expert in climate change adaptation.  Geoff is Team Leader of Climate Change and Environmental Futures at Atkins and is also the deputy Chair of the European Water Association's Climate Change Working Group. Justin Taberham, Director of Policy, and Paul Horton, International Director, are responsible for the network and it is managed by Alastair Chisholm, Policy Manager at CIWEM.

If you have climate change as an element of your post or are interested in climate change issues, please email Alastair to join the network. Membership of the network is not a commitment - it is a good way to keep in touch with CIWEM's work (there will be regular email updates) on climate change issues and to pass on your views.
