Waste and Resources

The UK generates some 342 million tonnes of waste per annum. Whilst in recent years an increasing amount of municipal waste has been diverted from landfill and recycled, we as a nation continue to produce too much waste in the first place. Both CIWEM's Manifesto and Waste Management Policy Position Statement call for resource efficiency and waste minimisation through increased producer responsibility.

CIWEM's work on waste and resources is taken forward by the Waste Management technical panel focusing on international waste policy and legislation, contaminated land, waste minimisation, resource issues, energy use and new technologies.
